Photo Shoot Flash Back 3

One of my very first photo shoots and first beach shoot was an interesting experience. At the time the only lighting gear I really had was a Canon 430EXII with omnibounce and a reflector. The flash was triggered via a Canon 580EXII on camera.

Photo Shoot Flash Back 2

Not much to say with this post. A candid shot of the beautiful Aoni Ma during one of our shoots from years ago. She’s always a pleasure to work with. Hopefully, I’ll have time to do a shoot with her in the coming weeks.

New Toy: Canon 135L

Gave in to temptation last week and got the Canon 135mm f/2L lens. Considered to be one of Canon’s finest lenses and the sharpest of the L primes. So what do I do to test it out? Take blurry pictures of the sunset through reflections on windows and the car of course!

Canon 135L
Canon 5D Mark III at f/2, 1/250 sec., ISO 400.

Mini story time: when I went out to take the above pictures, my neighbors were outside playing with their kids. After seeing me come out to take pictures, they got curious and probably wondered what the hell was going on that was so interesting. After I went back inside, I saw them walk out and look at the sunset, then take out their phones and take pictures as well. Haha, photography bringing people together.

Later in the day I decided to test it on more appropriate subjects to check sharpness:

Canon 135L
Friend’s dog, Uni, shot on Canon 5D Mark III at f/2, 1/50 sec, and ISO 25,600.
Tiger the meatbag Canon 135L
The four legged meatbag known as TIger, shot on Canon 5D Mark III at f/2, 1/320 sec., and ISO 200.

Pretty damn sharp lens if you ask me. Happy with it so far, but the real test will be when I can find a human subject under controlled lighting. Hopefully, I can setup a shoot soon. Stay tuned.

Photo Shoot Flash Back 1

Recently I’ve been going through all my old photos and picking out photos of people that I’ve taken pictures of. Some of these people may not have received a copy of said photos so better late than never right? Anyway over the years, I’ve had lots of photo shoots and almost all of them back then were done with an assistant. That means there’s often photos taken that show the behind the scenes action. As I’m still trying to get back into the flow of updating the blog regularly, it’ll be nice to post some of these pictures and if possible show how a shot came together. So stay tuned…

First off is a shot from my Princess in the Woods project.

Busy

It’s been an extremely busy week and the blog was offline without my knowledge until just right now. This week is the GDTV Miss Bikini 2015 contest and I’ve been busy with that. Expect an update soon though. For now enjoy these:

Back… again…

Well only one day after bringing back the blog the server’s hard drive decided to call it quits. So I had to prepare a new drive to replace the dying drive and finally tonight I got everything back up again. Still need to restore some other things but everything else should be back to normal. With that said, I plan to have at least one new post up this weekend. So stay tuned!

Back in the Game

It’s been years but I’ve decided to restart the blog. Originally, I was going to write my own blog using Django but … well I’m lazy. But why did I take down the old blog?! Well the answer is simple, I’m an idiot. At the time the server was still running a 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 from the days when the server was running off an Intel Pentium 3 processor with a ungodly 320MB of RAM. In other words, it was very old and outdated, which meant it couldn’t utilize the new hardware it was running on.

So I decided to start from scratch, full format with a clean new install of Debian 7 and attempt to write my own blogging system in Django. Unfortunately, my brilliant self decided that I had copied everything off the old install that I would need without double checking first. You know, that thing that most intelligent people would do when doing something as destructive as this. That and actually have a backup solution in place. Anyway, long story short I fucked up and lost the old blog when I sudo rm -rf / the sucker.

I’ve taken a rather long hiatus from photography since then. It’s about time to get back into photography and enjoy doing what I love. With that the blog is back and I will be posting regularly again.
